WOULD A GUN HAVE STOPPED A NJ KIDNAPPING & MURDER?

WHY ARE WOMEN TOLD A PIECE OF PAPER PROTECTS THEM?

by Theresa Inacker, CNJFO Communications Director 7-16-21

The death of New Jersey woman and mother, Yasemin Uyar, at the hands of her former partner tragically demonstrates the flaws and shortcomings of government systems, "feel-good" restraining orders and plea deals. Uyar made multiple attempts to move, to escape her abuser, former partner and father of her child. She couldn't and DIED trying. Unfortunately, it’s a story that is all too common.

Tyler Rios has been charged with kidnapping in this case, and is suspected of killing Uyar. The cause of death has not been released, although it is considered homicide. Rios has a long history of domestic violence, which included the strangulation of Uyar in 2018, for which he served 180 days in a county jail for a downgraded assault charge. Rios was recently arrested this March for striking Uyar leaving a visible mark on her face.

Women for gun rights, and Second Amendment advocates condemn all forms of violence, and assert that Uyar’s life, and all women’s lives, are worth defending. Reconcile this concept with the fact that the Police have no duty to protect you. Unjustly relying on the false concept that Police will save you proves deadly. In the Town of Castle Rock case, the Supreme Court of the United States held that “there is no constitutional right to be protected by the state against being murdered by criminals.”

"You are your own first responder"--Dan Grdovic, CNJFO President

Anti-gun rights group Moms Demand Action, exploits examples of domestic violence to further its anti-gun agenda, but why the silence on strangulation, stabbings and other forms of violence? Are these type of acts only condemnable when a gun is used? --That means its inherently about the gun, and not the violence; disingenuous at best. And more DEAD bodies piled-up on the Altar of Gun Control!

Real women’s rights advocates propose true, empowering solutions that are effective against all forms of violence. These solutions include gun ownership and training. While other advocacy groups propose solutions within governmental systems, we know this will not stop the epidemic of domestic violence. For instance, the New Jersey Coalition to End Domestic Violence is quoted as encouraging “stronger collaboration across systems.”

But according to domestic violence survivor, and state-level Delegate of the DC Project-New Jersey, Bernadette Hilway, a continued reliance on a broken system is not an effective resolution. Hilway, a lifelong New Jersey resident, suffered at the hands of former husband for years, and recalled the countless times Police would respond to their home after an assault occurred. Even her infant daughter suffered bruises and was not spared from the violence. On one occasion, Hilway’s husband pulled her by the hair out of the window of her vehicle, in front of her two young children. Although Police responded, he was arrested at 7 pm and released by 1130 pm the same evening.

The threats did not stop when Hilway’s husband left and they lived in separate residences. He would call threatening to burn her house down while she and her children slept; he threatened to use bombs against them.

And then one day, it all changed. Hilway was encouraged by a detective friend to apply for her Firearms Purchase Identification Card, so she did. She obtained her permit, purchased her first firearm, and became educated. She practiced her gun handling skills and had training. She advised her ex that she would strike back if he hurt her or her children. The threats and abuse stopped!

“They are basically bullies, knowing they are stronger than we are, they are able to physically overtake you. Becoming a gun owner changes that dynamic.”--Bernadette Hilway, Domestic Violence Survivor

Hilway encourages women to become educated, apply for their firearm permits and be prepared to defend themselves and their children. Unfortunately, the solutions proposed by governmental- focused advocacy groups fall short. WAY SHORT! To this day domestic violence victims are unable to carry a firearm in New Jersey, something the Coalition of New Jersey Firearm Owners and The DC Project is fighting.

Would Uyar still be alive today IF she owned a firearm? We'll never know. Relatives of murder victim Carol Bowne, a Berlin, New Jersey hairdresser who was stabbed to death and bled-out in her own driveway, as her newly-installed closed circuit surveillance system captured it all, know for certain. Fearing for her life, with the restraining order in-hand, Bowne applied for a hand gun purchase permit. 41 days later she called the police AGAIN to see what the hold-up was. Two days later she was DEAD! How many more bodies have to pile-up?

"Our lives are worth defending. Politicians and anti-rights groups who create obstacles and administrative hurdles that prevent women from lawfully defending ourselves are de facto, anti-woman. Groups such as CNJFO and DC Project raise awareness that firearms safety and violence prevention are achieved through education, and that gun rights are women’s rights."

---Theresa Inacker, DC Project NJ State Director and Delegate

Hilway is willing to help assist women in obtaining their permits to purchase "the great equalizer", and to find first-steps education courses in firearms handling. Groups like the Coalition of New Jersey Firearm Owners, and the DC Project-Women for Gun Rights, support and promote education over governmental legislation. Educating and empowering women against all forms of violence is the more effective solution. And it has been since Sam Colt invented the six-gun in 1836!

WELL REGULATED MEANS YOU HAVE LEAD BALLS & ABILITIES!

REV WAR MILITIAMEN HAD WHAT IT TOOK TO WAGE WAR!

by Black Wire Media Thur. June 24, 2021 www.cnjfo.com/join-us

The words "Well Regulated" are the heart of the Second Amendment itself, and they have nothing to do with military orders, chain of command, command structure, or how to salute an officer. Put plainly, it means a Militiaman has the necessary tools and personal items required to wage battle and maintain himself and his equipment. Fast forward two centuries later, when school children are taught that guns are bad and only cops and gang-bangers use them, and the anti-gunners rewrite of this term has taken hold, as adults argue that only National Guardsmen should own AR-15's. We are lost because we don't know where we came from!

The term "Well Regulated" can be applied to several common things of the time period, including kitchenware. A "well regulated" kitchen or hearth means the family has the implements needed to sustain itself and serve meals. Pots, pans, bowls, forks and a spit to cook properly dressed creatures on. There's written proof (see the photo) of what a "well regulated" kitchen is comprised of and the cook never had to crack a salute...

It has been stolen by those that oppose the Second Amendment, and it's long past time the Second Amendment community fought to restore its original meaning. If you tell a lie long enough, people tend to believe it, especially those ignorant of 18th century history. A "Well Regulated" Militia is a group of farmers, tradesmen and others that are well practiced and therefore capable of going into battle with what they own and can carry on their backs. That's it. Full STOP!

So they (the Militia is US!) not only own firearms, they PRACTICE using them. In today's terms, they need ranges to do so. Closing ranges for Covid was blatantly unconstitutional then, right?

What makes a person "Well Regulated"? Our founders said food, a blanket roll, backpack, cup, plate, fork, knife, fire starting kit, bear grease to lubricate their rifle, the rifle itself, lead balls & shooting patches, flints to make the rifle go BANG, black powder, and a possibles bag to put your tools and accoutrements in. Reenactor Brian Engle photographed his equipment and labeled it for us. Engle would be considered "Well Regulated" and would most probably share some of these items with others to help lighten his load. All of these items would be carried on their persons.

History is replete with written examples of privately owned cannon being used by Washington's troops during the Revolutionary War. Historians know this, but since US History is being taught in revisionist style for so long, today's youth are spoon-fed the narrative that only governments ever owned heavy arms. This country was forged on having the tools necessary to WIN a war, and even our current POTUS seems to be in need a history lesson. Perhaps someone on his staff should buy him a ticket to Colonial Williamsburg? It's only a short trip down I-95 from Washington, DC!

Where do we go from here? As the Anti's are trying to confirm the 2nd Amendment anti-Christ David Chipman as the head of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (BATF&E), it's time to FIGHT BACK! Call your Senators and tell them "NO" on Chipman. Teach your kids what "Well Regulated" actually means. Join Second Amendment organizations and donate to their war chests. Write an article, volunteer to man a table at a public event, get on your soap box. Before it all goes down the sewer of ignorance.

    CNJFO NEWSLETTER

    June 2021

    President's Message

Just one year ago, we were devastated to learn that the Supreme Court of our United States declined to take any of the ten pending Second Amendment cases awaiting cert. While that may have created some doubt in the judicial process, this year, the tables have turned. SCOTUS has taken the NY State Rifle and Pistol case. There WILL be a ruling on this case. Additionally, several politicians have openly threatened SCOTUS (yes Schumer, we are looking at you). Progressing to this month, SCOTUS has recently issued several unanimous 9-0 decisions, almost as if they are daring the Legislative Branch to take on the Judicial Branch in a tag-team grudge match (cue Vince McMahon!). These events give us great hope here at CNJFO for a positive outcome in this pending Second Amendment case. Yes, it will take MONTHS to get a decision in this case, but we will have a decision around this time next year.

The NICS check delays in NJ have finally resolved themselves, despite the growing month over month background check statistics going stratospheric. Anyone who has set foot in a gunshop in the last 3 months knows that ammo is hard to find, and expensive. Demand is through the roof. Please, everyone, encourage your friends who have gotten into firearms this year to get training.

As we emerge from Covid, CNJFO continues to look forward to organizing and running events which had been previously postponed. Our youth training is scheduled for September. I'm sure we will be working toward another Sporting Clays outing in the fourth quarter of this year, and hog hunts are already tentatively scheduled for the first quarter of next year.

Our next membership meeting will be July 22 at 7pm and will be virtual. Our October meeting will be in-person, location yet to be determined (if you have an 'in' with a venue, please let us know).

We wish that all of you have a safe and fun summer and we look forward to seeing you all at the range.

    Yours,

    -Dan Grdovic

    Legal Updates

Carry Permit Lawsuit: CNJFO joined Firearms Policy Coalition (FPC), Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and others in a federal lawsuit challenging New Jersey’s unconstitutional firearms permitting scheme, which is well-known to be fraught with delays and obstacles.  The case, called Kendrick v. Grewal, was filed in March 2021, and is currently pending.  A Motion to Dismiss was filed by Defendants on June 4, 2021.  The motion is not based upon the merits of the case, but other procedural reasons.  We will keep you advised of the court’s decision and any other actions.

Carry Lawsuit & the Supreme Court: CNJFO also joined forces with ANJR&PC in a federal carry lawsuit filed in United States District Court for the District of New Jersey.  That case, Mazahreh v. Grewal,  is “stayed” administratively, effectively put on hold, due to the grant of Certoriari by the Supreme Court of the United States in the Corlett (now Bruen) carry case, which it will hear later this year.  This is a usual procedure while everyone waits for the Supreme Court.  The Mazahreh case will be reactivated at the appropriate time.  A decision is not expected from the SCOTUS in Bruen until sometime in 2022.  CNJFO is coordinating with attorneys to participate in the amicus curiae brief (Friend of the Court) process in the Bruen case.   We will keep you informed.

Magazine Ban Lawsuit: CNJFO is also coordinating with attorneys to file an amicus brief in ANJR&PC v. Grewal, also known as the magazine ban case. That case was lost at the Third Circuit Court of Appeals so ANJR&PC is petitioning the SCOTUS to take the case.  The SCOTUS takes only about 3% of cases brought before it, so we need to fully support ANJR&PC in its efforts to challenge these unconstitutional restrictions.

CNJFO Endorses Anthony Colandro & Scott Bach for NRA Board

Voting members of the NRA are encouraged to support New Jersey's only two sitting NRA Board members, Anthony Colandro and Scott Bach.  New Jersey deserves the strongest possible representation at the NRA.  Consider a "bullet" vote by only choosing to vote for those two so that your vote has the most impact.

Instructors Needed For Youth Range Day, September 19th, Union Hill Gun Club, Monroe Township

The CNJFO Youth Range Day has been rescheduled! Instructors are needed. Experience, or NRA, USCCA certification as an instructor is preferred, but not required.  All we ask for is a positive attitude, sufficient knowledge and experience to handle and use firearms in a safe manner, and a commitment to helping introduce the next generation to the knowledge, skills and attitude needed to safely and effectively enjoy the shooting sports.  Contact Youth Committee Chairperson, and event organizer, Eric Saperstein at: Eric@cnjfo.org, or call 609-658-2955.

CNJFO is looking for a few good persons to chair our Website committee.
To be extraordinarily clear, we are NOT looking for Web designers at this time. We ARE looking for people to work on a committee to define what we need and want in order that we can develop a scope of work. When the time comes, that committee will interview various (paid) web designers and determine, in conjunction with the executive team, which designer will be contracted.

    Skills required for the committee:
-A desire to give back to the 2A community
    -Basic organizational skills
    -Attention to detail
-An hour a week to give

Please send us an email at info@cnfjo.com if you are interested in helping!

SC ARMS HOLDS GRAND RE-OPENING AFTER EXPANSION! STORE SIZE DOUBLED AND LINE WAS OUT THE DOOR!

by Black Wire Media Thur. Dec. 17, 2020 www.cnjfo.com/join-us

CNJFO sponsor Derek Pitera, President of SC Arms in Spotswood, NJ, had every Pink Card holder (retail firearms counterperson) he employs on deck for the Grand Re-Opening of his full-service gun store on Tuesday. The popular retailer had a line 20 buyers deep for HOURS. Some folks just wanted ammo, others were gun shopping, and recent customers that already bought firearms were picking up after being notified that their "INSTANT" NICS check was complete (after waiting a full week or more)!

SC Arms acquired the empty storefront directly adjacent to their 1,500 sq ft store in Romeo Plaza a few short weeks ago, and in just 4 days, rewired phones and computers, moved stock and display cases, thereby doubling the sales floor.

We interviewed several patient customers in line, asking them how long they've been a gun owner and why they shopped at SC Arms. A 21 year old woman was there to pick up her first hand gun; she has had a Firearms ID Card since she was 18, enjoys shooting and being empowered as only a firearm can provide. A mature woman brought her collage age son to buy a sporting rifle. They both said the customer service SC Arms offers is spectacular, even in these stressful times. CNJFO member Brian Barnes helped his mom pick out a new hand gun while his dad Edward waited in line to buy ammo. The Barnes family are strong 2nd Amendment supporters.

Dark Storm Industries, a Long Island, NY based sporting rifle manufacturer, sent two people to man a table displaying a handful of their latest offerings, including their popular non-NFA firearms. Customers asked questions, held the firearms and took catalogs. SC Arms is an authorized DSI retailer.

Eat Clean Bro, a NJ based full service food vendor, set up a folding table and brought 150 complimentary wraps and cases of bottled water to feed the assembled crowd. The fresh-made wraps were served "box lunch style" and featured pretzels and a clementine. CNJFO set up a small vertical banner and handed-out brochures next to Eat Clean Bro.

"Buddy", a 2 year old 200 pound Saint Bernard, complete with cask on his collar, made a hit entertaining fellow customers and vendors alike. To learn more about SC Arms, stop in or visit their website at:

A GIRL AND A GUN NJ CHAPTER HOSTS CNJFO's ROSENTHAL! HISTORY, EXEMPTIONS, AND EVIL SNOWMEN ENGAGED!

by Black Wire Media Tues. Dec. 15, 2020 www.cnjfo.com/join-us

New Jersey's only A Girl And A Gun Womens Shooting League chapter facilitator, Ronnie Siegel, invited Coalition of New Jersey Firearm Owners Vice President David "Rosey" Rosenthal, who gave a presentation at last night's meeting held at RTSP Range in Union, NJ. Rosey covered the historical nature of NJ gun law that gives more firearms transportation rights to wealthy land owners, as interpreted via a list of "exceptions & exemptions" to the NJ law that states ALL firearms are inherently ILLEGAL! Having multiple business locations and/or residences inside NJ's 21 counties translates to more exempted activities (transportation) and thereby lets the upper class exercise more gun rights.

"Possession, use and transportation of firearms for legal purposes are "carve-outs", otherwise known as EXEMPTIONS and EXCEPTIONS to the law that says they're all illegal, and memorizing those will empower gun owners in NJ to avail themselves of ALL their gun rights!" ---Dave Rosenthal, CNJFO VP

Rosenthal was then invited to help R-O during the live-fire port meet-up that immediately followed the brief lecture and Q&A. Over a dozen women spanning in age from teens to 70's had a real fun time with the drills that Siegel teaches using her art skills. The warm-up drill, shot at 5 yards, was multiple "holiday tree ornaments" painted onto brown paper, employing the "Aim Small, Miss Small" principle. Shooters were paired into teams, and each shooter had color-coded targets to engage.

"Experience levels varied--they always do at shoots like these--and those utilizing correct breathing & trigger squeezing techniques saw their accuracy climb and groups tighten. 9mm building blocks: building a firm foundation from which to explore new challenges! Ronnie teaches em' RIGHT! John, Jill and the other volunteer R-O's do a great job!"--Dave Rosenthal, CNJFO VP

Once warm-up was completed, Siegel then instructed the women to engage the hand-painted "evil snowman" in each port as if their lives depended upon the outcome. Center-mass, headshots, strong-hand only and weak-hand only shooting techniques were taught to the ladies, with emphasis on correct dynamic posture (leaning into the shot sequence) to ensure smooth function, recoil management, accurate hits and no "stove-pipe" jams from "limp-wristing".

Rosenthal got some trigger time too when Siegel "gave him a ride" on her CZ pistol as the ladies watched the old action shooter poke holes where they count in strong and weak-hand only.

    After-Action Quotable Quotes:

"Thank you Ronnie. I never would have thought that I'd be so confident with a firearm! I appreciate everything you and John do for us. Rosey was such a help to me, and so patient! I loved shooting that killer snowman, and was way more efficient with my weak hand than I'd ever dreamed I'd be!"---AGAAG member

"Thank you for teaching us this one handed shooting. I had never really thought about it. And I was worried about doing it. I feel so much better about myself since joining this group."---AGAAG member

Siegel has over 40 ladies in her Central NJ chapter, and they rotate ranges to make it easy for all to attend. To learn more, please visit:

by Black Wire Media Mon. Dec. 14, 2020 www.cnjfo.com/join-us

As America watched the viral video of the now fired Mall Santa tell Michael "NO GUN FOR YOU!" making him cry and turning our stomachs, NRA members from around the country sprang into ACTION, opened their wallets and stretched their budgets just a smidge more to make Christmas and Santa what they're supposed to be! A fun holiday experience! Hundreds of Nerf guns have been delivered to Michael, and his mom and NRA Life Member dad, a Police officer, have found good homes for them.

NRA-ILA's leadership and nimbleness in this inexcusable matter is to be commended. There's nothing more "American" than a little boy asking Santa for a gun. It's an AMERICAN tradition, one that CNJFO fights for every day! Join the NRA, and please join CNJFO! Help us grow stronger, because the next Anti with a soapbox is right around the corner!
