BREAKING NEWS!! Senator Steve Oroho, Assemblyman Parker Space and Assemblyman Hal Wirths have written to Colonel Patrick Callahan, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police, in response to CNJFO's letter about systemic infringements in the New Jersey firearms permitting process. The Legislators from District 24 (Sussex, Warren, Morris) are calling for elimination of the New Jersey NICS portal, printing of firearms permits at State Police barracks for gun owners served by them, and for multiple other streamlining measures including a closer working relationship with legislators that are gun owners.

"We are grateful for their quick response and tireless advocacy for Second Amendment rights in New Jersey" ---Theresa Inacker, CNJFO Communications Director

In an email to CNJFO this afternoon, the District 24 representatives said the following:

“We agree with you that New Jersey’s gun laws are too burdensome and were deliberately created as such to deny law-abiding residents a means to protect themselves and their Second Amendment Rights. Please see the attached letter we sent to the Superintendent of State Police outlining many of the concerns you addressed to us".

In the other matters addressed in your letter, we support shall-issue concealed carry:

A2904 Revises procedures for securing permit to carry handgun.

Space, Parker as Primary Sponsor
DiMaio, John as Primary Sponsor
Rooney, Kevin J. as Primary Sponsor
Wirths, Harold J. as Co-Sponsor

2/20/2020 Introduced, Referred to Assembly Judiciary Committee

A4053 Requires State to recognize permits to carry handguns issued to certain New Jersey residents by other states.

Space, Parker as Primary Sponsor

5/7/2020 Introduced, Referred to Assembly Judiciary Committee

The concealed carry bills are being drafted for introduction in the Senate.

Concerning the Carol Bowne case, we are supportive of giving priority to firearms permits to victims of domestic violence:

A555 Gives priority to applicants for firearms purchaser identification card and permits to purchase handguns when domestic violence restraining order is in effect.

Auth, Robert as Primary Sponsor
Space, Parker as Co-Sponsor
Wirths, Harold J. as Co-Sponsor

1/14/2020 Introduced, Referred to Assembly Judiciary Committee

The Senate version is being drafted.

More specifically regarding qualified immunity and other police reforms; we do know that Democrats in the legislature are planning these types of legislation. We do not know when they are going to have hearings on specific bills as of yet. Obviously we will keep monitor these bills as we always do.

Finally, still on the issue of FID’s, this bill from last session will be re-introduced this year:

A2228 Authorizes issuance of duplicate firearms purchaser identification cards for change of address with certain proof. (From 2018-19 legislative session, it will be given a new bill number)

Dancer, Ronald S. as Primary Sponsor
Webber, Jay as Primary Sponsor
Space, Parker as Primary Sponsor
Wirths, Harold J. as Co-Sponsor

Thank you again for contacting us and we want to continue to work together for the benefit of our individual right to keep and bear arms.

Senator Steve Oroho

Assemblyman Parker Space

Assemblyman Hal Wirths
