WEBINAR: What Every College Athlete Needs To Know About Earning Income From NIL And Endorsements

Schnader presents a timely webinar about, "What Every College Athlete Needs To Know About Earning Income From NIL And Endorsements.”

Matthew S. Tamasco photoStudent-athletes suddenly have opportunities to earn income from endorsing products and services and licensing their name, image and likeness (“NIL”).

Now student-athletes should understand the law and what rules apply going forward. This workshop will explain the basics of NIL and endorsements.

Shooting sports are an NCAA sport and student-athletes can now accept endorsement deals (subject to some state laws prohibiting endorsement of alcohol or firearms, ironically enough). This seminar should be of interest to the youth members of CNJFO and their parents. This seminar is appropriate for both parents and students at any age that may be interested in joining an NCAA team - whether in the shooting disciplines or otherwise.

The following issues will be discussed:

  • Recent changes in the NCAA rules and state laws about how college athletes can earn income using their NIL
  • The legal rights held by athletes for their intellectual property and right of publicity
  • How student-athletes can profit while complying with university policies
  • Opportunities and challenges that may occur, and how to handle them

The free webinar will be moderated by Matthew Tamasco and will feature leading attorneys from Schnader’s Sports Law Team and Intellectual Property Practice Group.

A litigator and business attorney, Mr. Tamasco has a diverse legal practice representing manufacturing, financial services, technology, aviation and insurance companies in a broad array of areas including product liability, employment law, intellectual property and corporate matters. Calling upon his prior experience in the field of computer network management, Mr. Tamasco also serves as e-Discovery liaison for the New York office. He previously served as Litigation Partner-in-Charge and Hiring Partner for the New York Office and continues to act as a mentor to associates of the firm at every opportunity.
